Prostate Screening

Since 2015 (excluding the tough Covid years of 2020 & 2021), Whitchurch Rotary has held an annual prostate testing event for men aged 50+ in Whitchurch and surrounding areas.

To date, this event has been very well attended and many lives have been saved from prostate cancer.

Rotarian Dave Simcock, organiser of the Whitchurch Rotary prostate screening event, says ...

Whitchurch is the only Rotary club in the surrounding district that arranges this type of screening for men aged between 45 and 79.  And we do it because one in three of them will be affected by the UK’s biggest killer of men in this age group.

Early stages of prostate cancer don’t necessarily produce symptoms so, if diagnosed, it can still potentially be cured.

Coming along to the screening event could be the most important thing that a man aged between 45 and 79 ever does.

Our recent prostate testing event took place on 6th October 2025 at the Whitchurch Rugby Club.

Attendance was greatly increased from the previous event in 2024 with over 1000 men turning up.

Our army of volunteers consisting of NHS nurses, Rotarians, Inner Wheelers and Rotary friends were kept very busy during the evening, from 4pm until 9pm, to ensure the smooth running of the event.

And after the event came the huge exercise of recording information from the PSA consent forms, producing and posting over 100 letters and sending over 900 individual emails. Phew!
